I don't know whether we at Renegade Amelia should feel flattered or slighted that we're not part of the battle royale.

I don't believe your only competition is Fire Pigs Productions. I agree with what Jake said come down off that pedestal.

I agree with Jake. Sweet Baby Jesus needs to get his head out of his ass! Damn Jesus and his asshead!

Wow, first of all, I'm flattered! I honestly thought that no one outside our friends and family read the blog. If you continue to check it out, please post comments! We'd love to hear from you (good or bad! Honest!)

Second, because I was naive enough to believe that no one cared, this poster was only meant to be seen by Fire Pig's and SBJ's team. It's a running joke we have about rivalries akin to the East Coast and West Coast rappers. It's been going back and forth on Facebook for a while, so friend me, and you can see it for yourself!

If this makes us look uppity, I honestly apologize. In the past year, we've been very humbled by the success of Rushin', (ask anyone on the team, I HATE the cut we turned in), yet I'll be the first to tell you that we only won because a jury of 3 liked it. We honestly got lucky.

If you feel that we're assholes, or on a high horse, ask someone who's actually talked to us at the boot camp or the other events since. (refrences available upon request)

We've opened up to anyone who had questions, and in a film community as small as Houston's, it benefits everyone to keep a level head.

So comment back, or let's talk about it on Wed or Thurs at the screenings. Even if you want to tell us we're assholes, I'll buy you a beer and we'll try to figure out where we went wrong so we can get back on track. I'm serious. We're far from perfect, and even negative criticism can have a positive impact.

Thanks for listening,

Jason

Sorry that a firestorm was started over a little playfulness. sweet Baby Jesus is just that -sweet. We know many serious competitive teams are entered into the competition and look forward to seeing their films. I am sorry that people were offended but I have no problem with the pics staying up. i hope that the other teams create their own rivalries or join one of our sides. At the end of the day we are all Houston film makers and helping each othe to create our best work helps us all.

Jake,

While not a member of sweet baby jesus, i was wondering what they said or did that offended you? Is it because they didnt put your team on the poster?

So this Jake guy is "offended" because he's not on a poster, that was between two other teams? And it was a joke between the other two teams to begin with, right.

Dont want to start a old school flame war, but Jake needs to get a life.

Where is this poster????

I agree with Jake! Fire Pig needs to get their heads out of their assess!

Or is it Sweat baby jesus that have thier heads up asses?

So does this mean we're all not going to grab a drink before the first screening tomorrow?

Reads like you all are drinking now!

I thought the poster was funny, because our film is going to kick both their ass's!

What I was upset about was from the look of the poster it appeared as though SBJ thought that their only competition was the other team on the poster and that they were what the 48 HR Festival was centered around and no other team mattered. Amid all of the publicity that SBJ has gotten from 48 HR it feels like they get special treatment which is fine when it is deserved and when people don't abuse it or feel entitled to it. This poster looked as though SBJ thought they were hot stuff and were indeed entitled to the special events they have been given. If it is indeed a private joke between the two then I apologize but SBJ is the team with the target on their back (4 years straight winning in Houston if I am not mistaken) and are more public than they think I guess. Jason seems to be a standup guy and, although some of his teammates comments (since deleted) are certainly not "Sweet" as jdnlv says SBJ is, I apologize for the harshness. Frankly it probably has more to do with the 48HR higher ups not recognizing the value of other teams than SBJ just accepting the praise and honors they have been offered.

Jake is just mad because he has no photoshop skilz!

Wow. I misspelled "loser" too. Now I feel like an incredible looser.

Dude! sweet baby jesus has only won once. And that was last year.

Anonymous said...

Not knowing Jake or Steve or Sweet Baby Jesus, I'll still throw in my 2 cents...maybe Jake or anyone else is offended because this site and the poster make the represnetation that this is from the organizers of the Houston 48hr Film Project and not simply one of the teams. Intentional or not.

I stumbled in here because I Goggled 48hr Film Festival. Afterall your site is "48hrfilm.blogspot". Why not call it SBJ.blogspot. And the poster does say "The 48 Hour Film Project" presents.

Maybe this representation rubbed a few people the wrong way.

Jason, I feel you brother. Your remarks are real.

Jake, I feel you too brother.

Now kiss and make up....now there's a film. lol

That is pretty accurate anon. As requested

Hey y'all, our parents, grand-parents friends and extended families read this blog...Please, if you have an issue with Jason, just e-mail or call him, anytime, I know he would be open and listen to anything anyone had to say to him and would, if someone was hurt, offended or upset by something he did make it right. I think telling us we have our heads places where human heads shouldn't go is hurtful. We're good people who love making films.

Jason said...

Hey Jake,

Thanks for responding. I'm sorry I didn't get to those comments before anyone else saw them, as that isn't the image we want to project as a team.

Last year was our only year to win. We've made decent flicks in the past, but like I said, we got lucky with Rushin', and were humbled by the praise we received from our peers.

And you're absolutely right. I guess we are a little more public than we realized. Had I understood that, this blog would not have been the forum to show the poster out of context.

If I had I been in your shoes, SBJ would look like huge assholes that had already decided the race, and that was the furthest thing from our intent.

So the offer for the beer still stands if you'll accept it. I'll be there both nights, and look forward to seeing your film!

J

I apologize for my "not sweet comments"...

Don't YOU get angry when someone falsely accuses you of having your head up your butt or thinking you're hotter than anyone else? When YOU are being judged and characterized completely contrary to who you really are?

There are too many dragons to slay in the world... no need to manufacture any.

Certainly no one on this team feels like they're entitled to anything or are better than anyone else... we won ONLY ONCE for crying out loud... and if 48hr film project tapped your team to do something, would you just turn it down? Had nothing to do with thinking we are bigger than life.

And as for a target on our back? Why? We won once... once.

Houston 48hr film project producer Laura's team won Best of Houston plus Best Writing, Directing, Writing and more- more than us-
I really don't think she feels bigger than anyone else, she just enjoys what she does and has contributed to the Houston Film making scene.

PS) I'm sorry I misrepresented the good-hearted nature of all my team members

Jason,

Having read the comments, I think we should just delete the whole "challenge" post.

I know that both SBJ and FPP thought is was funny, and it was not meant to upset anyone person or team. But apparently it did.

There's a lot of wrong information posted about us (4 years winning, special events). But I'm sure it was not made intentionally.

But it's still best to remove it and move on.

Love and Kisses,
Michael

I think the poster is a great way to get people to come out and enjoy the product of your hard work over this last weekend. I also think that if the teams screening Thursday night come up with a one sheet to promote their hard work, that Jason would probably put it up on the blog.

Jason is a unique and talented individual as are all members of this community. Unique in that he and Michael have expended a ton of effort to make the community more inclusive and offer boot camps and regular get togethers throughout the year so we can all stay in touch.

Even though I was not able to participate last weekend, I am a proud SBJ team member, and know that each and every one of them have an incredible amount of respect for our peers. This competition truly motivates us to be better at our crafts. That motivation comes from competing against this incredible film community in Houston.

Best look to all during the screenings, and thanks for making Houston a great filmmakers town.

My bad on the wrong information of winning multiple years. My original post with the sour words was deleted as per Caroline's request. Sorry for the drama, I look forward to seeing y'alls film tomorrow. I'll try and find you guys so you can put a face to the drama haha.

Peace

Hey Renegade Amelia,

I read over the twittering you blogged-- great melding of the two!-- and it really sounds like you guys made an awesome flick! Can't wait to see it!

Jason,

Your "sincere" comments went right out the window when you showed up with your tactless posters.

Caroline said...

Get a life "anonymous" I mean really..you have nothing better to do then comment on this blog about our team's posters? They were funny. Period. If you have a problem with them, you can talk to me, Jason didn't do them, I did.

Anonymous said...

Ok, Caroline, I will address you; you have no tact. The posters were funny when you thought them up, they were funny when you and your team laughed about them, even funny when you printed them. But they cease to be funny when you display them at a "public" screening. Family and friends attend these screenings...they aren't in on your little joke. Not to mention the fact they are offensive. "Vote for Sweet Baby JESUS or go to Hell". That offends me and I don't even go to church. Again; privately funny, publicly offensive.

Keep in mind I am only responding to these public posters. I have no problem with your online poster. It is actually funny. I have no problems with your team. You all do creative films. I think "Betman" is certainly in the running this year. Good luck and may the best film win.

I remain anonymous only to respect my team because I do not want my views to be perceived as my teams views.

Caroline said...

Fair enough, I am sorry for not taking that into account and if we offended you and your guests in any way. Thank you for your kind words and good luck to you and your team.

Jason said...

It appears that we're talking about two things here:

1. People who have never bothered to talk to us saying that we have our heads up our asses, and place ourselves on a pedestal, and:

2. Someone who didn't like our posters.

I don't think that the two should be confused, and I'm offended that you feel that my previous comments were insincere because of a promotional poster. How random is that?

The fact of the matter is, this is the same poster we have used in the past to promote our films. This is nothing new.

So if you don't like our poster, that's cool. Let's talk about that. But it's pretty shitty and cowardly of you to not only attack my character, but to do so under a veil of anonymity.

I thought this was a community of artists. I had no idea an artist's sensibiliies could be so conservative and so PC, so easily offended.

Jake said...

BTW I'm not the Anon who was talking about the posters at the screening in case you were wondering lol. Betman looked good guys. What kind of cameras/mics do yall use?

Jason said...

Ha! No prob, I didn't think it was...

We shot w/ the HVX200. We were going to go w/ a 35mm adapter, but it's a huge headache in timed competitions.

We use a couple of AudioTechnica shotguns. One short & one long. (can't remember the model #s off the top of my head)
